Have you seen the video of Jamie Oliver and his Food Revolution? (it is on ted.com). In it, he asks a group of children, about age 8, I would guess, to identify some vegetables. Ordinary ones, like a tomato and a carrot, and NONE of them could identify any of them.
The roots of the $.50 chicken (I think) pieces and children who don't know what a real vegetable looks like are so deep - political, economic, educational, social. Where do you start???
