Some reasons to love Detroit!
I just got back from Detroit and I'm totally stoked. I love it there. I carried a loaf of break from the Avalon bakery all the way back to Los Angeles and it is truly one of the most delicious loaves of bread ever. Wow.
Why else is Detroit great? Besides the whole Motown thing and the car industry, there is some ballsout yummy food like French Fry sandwiches. Rad! I visited a couple super yarn shops. City Knits in the historic Fisher building downtown has an excellent selection of colors and styles of yarn and Artisan Knitworks in Grosse Point has an incredible variety of handspun and hand-dyed yarns and fibers from small farms and yarn producers. I was a bit blown away by the selection of cool stuff and picked up some totally funky, really not-my-style yarns.
Hamtramck is right outside of Detroit and has a lot to love including the Hamtramck Disneyland. I love tourist attractions that are located in alleys. This is sort of like Watts Towers, but less structurally scary.
Also visited Design 99, where I was reunited with a zine I read years ago, Stupor. I had a few issues from the old days and was really excited to see that some new ones were out. Amazing to learn too that Steve Stupor lives right in Hamtramck and was friends with the proprietors of the store! Wow!
The reason I was in Detroit in the first place was because I am in a show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, which is a huge exhibition space located in a former Cadillac dealership. Right on, Detroit.

It was nice having you! Fun showing you around. I must point out though that Hamtramck is actually inside detroit not just outside of it. It was once a farming community on the periphey of Detroit but that was long ago. It is now a 2X2 sq. mile city located right inside the heart of Detroit.
Hope you didn't offend too many people on your flight with your garlic laden self.
greetings from Detroit!
