Democracy never goes out of style

Or so we (and by we, I mean, we "Americans") would like to think.
I made this pair of socks over Memorial Day weekend, gritting my teeth against the cynicism of the message. Voting isn't the panacea our so-called "elected" officials will have us believe. Neither here nor abroad is it the be-all end-all. But voting, as in casting a ballot in an election, does do something, some of the time. Remember that surge of happiness when the results of the midterm elections came in last year? We of course all hoped all would be different by this Memorial Day, and that the election elation would never end. Right. But business as usual remains, usually, at least for awhile. There's always '08 to look forward to.

And in the meantime, do vote with your feet. Patronize places of business that you believe in. Use your dollar as a weapon. In the end, that's the vote you really do have in a capitalist country.

And get on that fucking bike of yours and ride the damn thing everywhere you can. Exxon hates bikes. Plus, the VOTE socks are supersexy in those cycling shoes you scored from your independently owned bike shop.

Reminds me of a poster I saw in a window during an election once "Don't vote - it only encourages them." But voting with your feet, now there's a plan I can work with! You're the best Lisa, you inspire me every day!
